FELICIA RENEE DIAZ

Hello! My name is Felicia Renee Diaz. I  am the founder and sole artist of A.F.A.R., which stands for Artisan Furniture Artistically Redesigned.  I came upon the name for my business when thinking about what this project was all about to me. This business is centered around a fusion of my love of art and home design. I originally have a background as a fine artist and I actually earned a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art from the American Academy of Art in Chicago.

When I was in junior high, I realized that I also loved anything on tv that had to do with redesigning homes. I was so influenced by the designing I saw, that I came up with a design for my own bedroom that involved custom painting my walls and furniture.  My grandma, a fellow artist, helped me carry out the designs.  I loved the entire process, from dreaming the details up in my head to seeing them become a reality.

Very much like back then, my process starts out with finding pieces of furniture that exude uniqueness and are an inspiration to me. I carefully plan out all the details beforehand, which is a nice way of saying I absolutely obsess over everything until I have a complete plan! It is such an exciting process to imagine these forgotten pieces of furniture as the pieces of art that they could be and then seeing them become that. It truly feels like bringing something from afar into the present.
